to do, doing, done は、動詞を文の部品として使う形。

形	中心イメージ	例
to do	これからする・目的	We need to fix this.
doing	行為そのもの・途中	I started fixing it.
done	された状態	The issue is fixed.
doing 名詞	〜している名詞	the failing test

英語では、動詞をそのまま名詞や形容詞のように使う場面が多い。ここを押さえると、実務の短い表現が読みやすくなる。

ニュアンス比較

need to fix / need fixing

We need to fix this.
This needs fixing.

need to fix は「私たちが直す必要がある」。needs fixing は「これは直される必要がある」と対象に焦点がある。

start to fix / start fixing

I started to fix the bug.
I started fixing the bug.

多くの場面では近い。started fixing は作業に入った感じが少し強い。実務会話では started working on ... もよく使う。

fixed / being fixed / failing

The issue is fixed.
The issue is being fixed.
The failing test blocks the release.

fixed は直された状態。being fixed は直されている途中。failing test は失敗しているテスト。

日本語トラップ

to の後ろに過去形を置かない

NG: We need to fixed this.
OK: We need to fix this.

to の後ろは動詞の原形。

mind の後ろは doing

NG: Would you mind to review this?
OK: Would you mind reviewing this?

mind, avoid, consider, finish などは後ろに doing が来やすい。

done と doing の向き

the failing test  失敗しているテスト
the failed test   失敗したテスト
the fixed bug     修正されたバグ

doing は動いている・性質としてそうしている感じ。done はされた状態や完了した感じ。

This logic is getting hard to test.
The failing test seems related to the mock setup.
We should avoid adding another flag here.
