get のコロケーション: 日常会話から開発現場まで

コロケーションとは何か

Collocation Basics

コロケーションは、単語同士の自然な組み合わせのこと。

文法としては間違っていなくても、組み合わせが不自然だと「通じるけど、少し引っかかる英語」になる。たとえば日本語で「強い雨」より「激しい雨」のほうが自然に聞こえるように、英語にも「この名詞にはこの動詞が来やすい」という組み合わせがある。

英語学習では単語を1つずつ覚えるより、動詞 + 名詞、動詞 + 状態、動詞 + 前置詞のかたまりで覚えたほうが、会話の瞬発力が上がる。

このシリーズでは、日常会話でよく使う一般動詞から始めて、ソフトウェアエンジニアの実務会話へつなげる。

get の中心イメージ

GET: Core Mental Model

get の中心は、何かが自分のところに来る / ある状態に移るという感覚。

日本語にすると「得る」「受け取る」「到着する」「なる」「させる」などに分かれるが、英語では同じ get でかなり広く表現できる。

get a message     メッセージを受け取る
get ready         準備できた状態になる
get to the office オフィスに到着する
get someone to review it 誰かにレビューしてもらう
get deployed      デプロイされた状態になる

まずは訳語を増やすより、「受け取る」「到着する」「状態が変わる」の3つの感覚で見る。

日常会話で使う get

GET in Everyday Conversation

get + noun

表現	使う場面	例文
get a message	メッセージを受け取る	I got your message this morning.
get a call	電話を受ける	I got a call from my friend.
get a chance	機会・時間ができる	I’ll read it when I get a chance.
get some rest	休む	You should get some rest tonight.

receive a message も正しいが、日常会話では get a message のほうが軽く自然に聞こえる。receive は少し硬く、通知、書類、正式な連絡などに寄りやすい。

get + adjective / state

表現	使う場面	例文
get ready	準備する	I need to get ready for dinner.
get better	良くなる	My English is getting better.
get tired	疲れてくる	I get tired after long meetings.
get stuck	行き詰まる	I got stuck on this question.

be ready は「準備できている状態」、get ready は「準備できた状態へ向かう動き」。会話では、この状態変化を get で短く言える。

get + place

表現	使う場面	例文
get home	家に着く	I usually get home around seven.
get there	そこに着く	What time did you get there?
get to the station	駅に着く	I got to the station early.
get back	戻る	I’ll call you when I get back.

注意点は、home と there は副詞なので to を入れないこと。

OK: I got home late.
NG: I got to home late.

OK: We got there on time.
NG: We got to there on time.

get feedback

get feedback は、意見やレビューをもらう場面で使う。

I'd like to get your feedback on this proposal.
Can we get some feedback from the sales team?

hear your opinion でも通じるが、仕事では get feedback on ... の形にすると、具体的な対象に対するコメントを求めている感じになる。

get approval

get approval は、承認を得る場面で使う。

We need to get approval before we send this to the client.
I got approval from my manager yesterday.

take approval とは言わない。日本語の「承認を取る」に引っ張られると間違えやすい。英語では「承認が自分のところに来る」と考えて get approval。

get access

get access は、ツール、ファイル、環境、アカウントに入れる権限を得る場面で使う。

I still can't get access to the shared folder.
Could you help me get access to the staging environment?

access は名詞として使うなら get access to ...。動詞として使うなら access the folder のように直接目的語を取る。

get someone to do

get someone to do ... は、誰かに何かをしてもらう表現。

I'll get Ken to check the numbers.
Can we get someone from legal to review this?

make someone do ... は強制感が出る。ビジネス会話では、依頼や調整なら get someone to do ... のほうが柔らかい。

GET in Engineering Work

Standup

朝会では、進捗、今日やること、ブロッカーを短く言う必要がある。get は「状態が変わる」「作業が前に進む」を短く表すのに便利。

I got the API tests passing yesterday.
I'm trying to get the search endpoint ready today.
I got blocked by a database migration issue.
I need to get up to speed on the new auth flow.

get blocked は「ブロックされる状態になる」。I'm blocked だけでも言えるが、I got blocked by ... と言うと、何が原因で止まったのかを続けやすい。

Meeting

会議では、理解、合意、次のアクションに関する get が多い。

Let me make sure I got this right.
Can we get back to the main topic?
I want to get this point across clearly.
Let's get everyone on the same page before we decide.

get this across は「相手に伝わる状態にする」。単に say this ではなく、相手が理解するところまで含む。

PR review

Pull Request まわりでは、get reviewed、get merged、get this done が使いやすい。

Could I get someone to review this PR?
I want to get this merged before the release cut.
Let's get the naming cleaned up before we merge it.
I got feedback on the error handling, so I'll update it today.

get merged は「マージされた状態になる」。自分が直接マージするかどうかより、PR の状態変化に焦点がある。

Incident / support

障害対応や問い合わせでは、状況把握と復旧に関する表現が多い。

We're trying to get the service back online.
Can you get the logs from the last deployment?
I'll get back to you once I confirm the root cause.
We need to get through the backlog of support tickets.

get back to you は「確認してから返事する」。すぐ答えられないときに便利だが、仕事では期限を添えるとより自然。

I'll get back to you by the end of the day.
I'll get back to you after I check the logs.

似た表現との違い

GET Contrast Map

get feedback / receive feedback

get feedback は会話で自然。receive feedback はやや硬く、報告書やフォーマルな文脈に合う。

Natural: I got feedback from the reviewer.
Formal: We received feedback from the client.

get approval / take approval

get approval が自然。take approval は日本語の「承認を取る」から作ると出やすいが、英語では基本的に使わない。

OK: We need to get approval from security.
NG: We need to take approval from security.

get ready / be ready

get ready は準備する動き。be ready は準備できている状態。

I need to get ready for the demo.
I'm ready for the demo.

get someone to review / make someone review

get someone to review は依頼・調整。make someone review は強制。

Polite: I'll get someone to review it.
Strong: The manager made me review it again.

get done / do

do は行為そのもの。get done は完了状態に持っていく感覚。

I need to do the task.
I need to get the task done by Friday.

締切や完了を強調したいときは get ... done が使いやすい。
